Artists are activists.

Artists are powerful. A force to be reckoned with. It’s a simple equation: more art, better world.

Getty Unshuttered is a free photo sharing app from the Getty Museum. It’s built to be a positive community for teen artists to raise their voices for social good. To inspire each other. To grow as artists.

What are you passionate about? What do you want to change? Snap it. Share it. Energize others to act. That’s a virtuous cycle, right?

A museum made a photo sharing app?

We did. Why? Because we believe everyone is an artist and we wanted a place where they could gather, share, and learn. Is it going to compete with big social media apps? No. It’s not meant to. Were they built for artists? No, they weren’t. Unshuttered is different. It’s supportive and free.

Make the Getty your canvas

Every photo posted to Unshuttered before June 15 has a chance to be included in the Unshuttered live event at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles on June 26. We'll choose over 800 of the most compelling, eye-catching images to transform the museum's courtyard walls at our huge Unshuttered takeover party. It’s all to celebrate our amazing teen artists, and we want you to be there.

Download the app and start snapping today.
